(VIDEO) OUR FRIEND SYBIL BURTON

Seated in front of the Mac computer, recording this video, John remembers Richard Burton's visits to their home. That Sybil recently died, that John was working with the Burton's daughter Kate last week, brings back memories of the couple and John's and Em's relationship with them.

The Cullums pay tribute to Sybil for her reaction to Richard's philandering, and the theater she developed in Long Island, New York.

I don't know how I didn't hear of this! It's shocking and sad. She was quite a lady! Your reminiscences are sweet and loving, thank you for sharing them.

Very good blog on tribute to the Burton family.
Interesting and moving to say the least. Memories of great people and friends touch the heart and inspire the soul to keep living. Thanks for sharing. kam

Mr. Burton was a rather troubled soul. His passion for life superseded everything. When he did anything, he did it with all the vim and vigor he could stir up. This I say, not as a friend of his, but as an outsider looking in. I could be wrong, but he was, in my opinion, a man's man, a woman's man, and even a man for all seasons. He lived in a world that tried to bind him. He had so much to give, so much to say, but never enough time. His imprint on me was his never ending passion for living and an extremely strong presence. Unfortunately, passion that strong has its drawbacks. I would have loved to have met you and really listened to you. Heard you ... Really heard you.

You are so right about how some things and people are so hard to let go. A bitter-sweet commentary. Thanks, Em.

I read the introduction to the recent book of Richard Burton's letters. I couldn't stick with the letters, but the introduction was long and interesting and talked about Sybil and their marriage. She does sound like a wonderful woman.

I absolutely adored Carousel and 2 of the reasons were John and Kate Burton. Both gave flawless performances and both had totally authentic New England accents.

It did not go unnoticed by me that JC and Kate were both in the same production and that Kate had been a mere tot when JC and Burton worked together in both Camelot and Hamlet. (Both of which I was more than fortunate to see!)

I am sure Sybil Christopher is very pleased when someone, even a friend, publicizes her first husband's screwing around. It is also well known that she has nothing to do with her first husband for the last fifty years, so I don't why you, as well as many others, keep connecting her with this man.
