Oh Em! Like you, I take my most unpleasant thoughts to bed with me. I am pretty good at "daytime denial" of my fears, but at bedtime with no mental distractions, I often allow them to rear their ugly heads.

I read before bed and try my best to only turn the light out when I finally feel that I am about to fall asleep soon.

It doesn't always work, but I try. If I remain awake and allow my negative thoughts and fears to take over, I usually stop trying to fall asleep and read some more.

I have to admit that I do take sedatives at bedtime, because I am an insomniac without them.
