The stunning former model, Tyra Banks, is fascinating. She can model and look sexy, young, chic, elegant in almost any kind of outfit. She can talk her way into and out of and around almost any subject.
Tyra yells, screams, weeps real tears -- she can be very cruel, very sweet, motherly, sisterly, tender, as she confronts and subtly competes with much younger girls, and invariably wins first prize for beauty, talent, and know-how, no matter who, or how gorgeous her guest is.
Banks is a big gal -- 5'10", big boobs, broad hips, up and down in weight -- sometimes slender, sometimes borderline zaftig, voluptuous . She knows how to hide, disguise, somehow magically reconfigure her shape, along with her hairdo -- with one of her -- how many? I'm guessing she's got more than 200 wigs, and an endless array of formal, fancy, sloppy, cute, sleek, ultra haute couture, revealing outfits.
Wikipedia reports her yearly income is currently $28 million.
Every day she's on TV in the "Tyra Banks Show" or "America's First Model," which seems to have set the standard for reality show cruelty. After we briefly meet each contestant and each reveals how desperately she needs to win, and explains why she is sure she's the best, most talented, most truly destined to win, Tyra discusses the girl's assets, the girls' mistakes, and wham -- like God -- Tyra's stance, her manner, her judgment says she's God -- Tyra Banks suspensefully announces who won by revealing one by one, who lost.
For me, this is sadistic, and not entertaining. "America's First Model" is a show about ambitions and dreams that is inspiring more and more young girls to pursue modeling, a career that creates in little girls, who are still too young to compete, what I think is repulsive, obsessive vanity, along with a grab-bag of misconceptions about femininity.
We can't ignore Tyra's growing popularity. She won't run for president but she's a super powerful 37-year-old woman who's already a guru.

Interesting and entertaining blog today Em. I don't like Tyra Banks nor watch her show. But, after viewing these 2 videos, she does have a powerful stance and emotion and I feel sort of sorry for the contestants on her show that have to put up with her. The weight gain video is a keeper....Lol! kam
I watch the show (America's Next Top Model) and never got a really negative impression from her with regard to how she talks about the contestants. I think what she's done with her show is actually incredible when you look at it from this stand point...
Tyra Banks didn't have an easy time in fashion. Her road to fashion royalty started as essentially a pretty skinny black girl with a big forehead who happened to have a nice pair of boobs. I'm sure she endured quite a lot of ridicule and criticism in her rise to the top. Today what her show does to an extent is give young women who are already aspiring models a look into that world of fashion that they so crave and gives them a crash course and a useable portfolio. The lady who happens to win the contest, gets a little more in the way of contracts, gifts, money, and gigs lined up that could help to launch a successful career. And interestingly enough, the contestants who haven’t won have more often than not launch more successful careers than many of the winners. If you happened to hear about or see the All-Start version of the show this past season, all the contestants were working models with their own careers in fashion.
Just by hearing what the judges say on the show with regard to how models are treated, we know that it is vitally important for a model to have tough skin. If you want a pretty decent movie to shed light on that, check out “The Devil Wears Prada,” starring Meryl Streep (excellent performance) and Anne Hathaway (I’d love 24hrs or a life time with her).
I might have seen one episode of “The Tyra Banks Show” so I’m not a Tyra fanboy. I do find her to be genuine and honest in her approach to how she deals with her contestants.
