ME, ME, ME.

Are you part of the new younger generation?

Are you focused on YOU -- how you feel, what you're going to do today, what you're going to wear -- what you want, where you're heading, what you think, like, love, approve of?

From my couch, where older-wiser folks who are on their way out of the world, (like me), can lean back against the pillows and observe the kids, I see it's the pattern. We were center stage -- used to be -- and now we've been upstaged, crowded out into the wings (the offstage areas) because all the newbies, those bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, fast-brained kiddies are entering and centering themselves.

Yes, I think in "theater" terms. I was sure, when I was a newbie, that my ideas were new, fresh, fascinating, unique -- no one was thinking of doing what I was doing. I was sure that when what you're doing is new, it's truly exciting, and people will pay money to see it -- at the very least -- they'll pay attention.

Back in those days, I thought new music needed to be louder. I made passionate pronouncements about current events, inventing phases, combining baby talk and French or Yiddish words. Of course, I wore outlandish outfits -- weird things around my neck and wrists as if they were  jewelry. I wore capes -- full-length swirling, flowing capes --  even got my husband to wear them.

Nowadays, I complain: New music is too loud; new behavior is often crude and silly sexy in an effort to be sexy. I find much of the current lingo, like cray, swaggy, derp, just boring, nonsensical -- good slang is essential if you want to be groovy, cool, or with it.

Does groovy, cool, with it date me?  Well, the new crop of kids are no more me-me-me than I was. I know I'm on the way to the top of the hill -- to the tip-top place where going up is actually going down.

Yep, I'm there along with pals, peers, tweet followers, FB and real-life friends. We are just doing what we have to do in order to feel vital, important, -- pooh poohing, pitying, and putting down the younger generation.

That's all. We're proudly right on with it,

AND
AWESOME COOL, SUPER GROOVY.

The new generation, a big generality, is our future. I believe they are being hit with more lies that we were (whom ever "we" was/is).

Having worked in a private school 11 yrs, many of those children, now grown, are having children. The teenage fads fade a bit as they marry and have children.

Basically, Em, you are correct. They are centerage stage.

However, I don't believe we ever get moved off stage, I believe we move ourselves off.

Attention is valuable. I try to give it to people, to notice people, assist/praise them as best I can. It always comes back :-)

I still say Groovy, but I am considered very old at the ripe age of 37 now :-(

Haha! The more things change, the more they stay the same!

It's all in our perspective, isn't it?

You're quite the brilliant lady, Em! :)

Many of my friends are thirty years younger than me. They are bright, witty, and darn fun to be around. I will never give up on our youth, they are a blast. Like you, I grew up in those years of grooviness and I was a silly kid with a brain and a dream.

I still am I guess. This idea that kids are lazy and don't use their minds or their bodies is just a crap load. I was lazy and didn't use my mind when young. Love kids, young adults, and old adults. We all rock.

When I recall my long-hair/poncho-wearing days and the youthful arrogance I had then, I get so embarrassed.

Right on, Babe.
Since Roman times and before, people have been despairing the behaviour and probability of survival of the 'younger generation.'
We thought we'd never grow old. "Don't trust anyone over thirty."
Thirty is still a baby now from my perspective.
With wisdom comes wrinkles.
Our generation of babies born with a boom will party into the sunset, never losing our groovey. And cool.
Peace.

Time has changed us all. Now with more ways to get noticed such as YouTube and other ways. Kids have social media and so much more then we had. However, time changes. It is like the poem John wrote for you. It all goes hand in hand. I try to be my best and love others and never lie to anyone in order to gain something from them.
This world is moving faster then the speed of sound, we none don't notice every little thing, if we did it would be over whelming. Think about how fast life has moved and things have changed, kids are smarter and it amazes me. I know my time will come and I will bow out of this world that I was blessed to live in. The circle of life is in all of us. I love to write but it has got me no where, it has helped release thoughts and feelings, it is good to do that, I was in an over load. Well enough said from this ole chick.

I think that some things change and there are some things that definitely stay the same but I also believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that this generation is unlike any other in the history of the USA. The Good, The Bad & The Extremely Ugly is how I describe it some may disagree with me but it is what it is as the kids say nowadays lol!
