(VIDEO) JOHN CULLUM PLAYS A TRANSVESTITE

Right off the bat Emily wants to know what John thinks of actor, writer, producer Harvey Fierstein.

John describes the reading he did recently, of Fierstein's new play, "Casa Valentina," along with his friends Len Cariou, and John Glover, and reveals that Fierstein is also playing an important role in his own play.

Performing a few lines for Em, it sounds as of it's a project with a future on Broadway.

We all have so many differences from each other. Back in the 70s I knew a transgender woman fairly well. She eventually had the operation in order to physically become a woman. She was ravishingly beautiful. She said she wasn't gay but that she really loved straight men. Eventually she got married. I don't know how she's doing now.

This sounds like a fascinating project! I've known people covering the whole spectrum of gender and sexuality, so this would be very interesting to me.

I hope it makes it to Broadway! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. <3

What a wonderful cast!

Interesting that he wrote them as straight and not gay.I have known a few transvestites and they were all gay.

Harvey has written at least 2 other shows with female impersonators. One was indeed gay, in La Cage and one was straight in Hairspray.

I guess I am really thinking of female impersonators versus transvestites, although they usually seem to be synonymous.

Very interesting blog! This play sounds like a winner on Broadway I hope. I bet John does a fantastic job performing in this talk about town play. Keep us posted on this project. It is so fun listening to you both discuss the play. kam

Thanks for sharing that with us John & Em! I think it is interesting that he wrote these characters as straight. I think that will add a lot of interest to the play.

On a side note, I love how the two of you interact with each other. You can tell you've been together a long time and can see the love :D
